Congratulations on the publication of your article!
You're probably wondering now how to maximise its reach, readership and usage. While we at Edinburgh Univesity Press are busy behind the scenes doing everything we can to promote your article and our collection of journals, from indexing, blog posts and social media marketing via our Bluesky account to ensuring that new issues are highlighted on our newsletters, there's definitely a lot to be said about the strength of author marketing. Your networks are a key audience, after all, and no one is better placed to reach out to them than yourself, an expert in your field.
We've curated a list of handy tips and resources below for you, to help you promote your article. We hope you find it useful!
Here are some easy ways that you can help to spread the word about your article to people working in your field:
Share your article's webpage on your email signature
Send an email to your colleagues and friends to let them know that your article has been published
Share your article's webpage on your institutional website
Share your article's webpage on your personal website, if you have one
Add your article to any corresponding Wikipedia entry's pages as a reference - if you're not sure how to do this, get in touch with us and we can help - you can find our marketing contact details at the bottom of this article
Post on your social media: Facebook, Bluesky, LinkedIn, your blog, etc. You could also post a link to the article on your Academia.edu and ResearchGate profiles but please note that it is not allowed to post your entire article on commercial sites. If in doubt, read our guidance on reusing, archiving and sharing your work.
Don't forget to mention us on Bluesky! @edinburghup.bsky.social - we will retweet you when you tag us
If your department has a news feed or any social media profiles, ask them to share the link, too
Write a short post for the Edinburgh University Press blog - scroll down for more information in the next section. The Edinburgh University Press blog is a great avenue for promoting your research to a wider audience. It's a great stepping stone for readers who wish to learn more about your chosen subject
Fill out a library recommendation form or contact your librarian directly to ensure that they subscribe to the journal. They could also take out a free trial which we can help set up
Encourage your friends and contacts at other universities to request a subscription through their library, or a free trial, which we can help set up
All of our journal contributors and editors are invited to write a post for the Edinburgh University Press blog. Before you submit a blog post, we suggest that you have a browse through our posts. Remember to subscribe if you'd like an update when a new post publishes!
